尽管人类对空间的认知可能具有一定的普遍性,但人类对同一空间事件的表达却因为语言的差异而千差万别。这使得空间运动性事件成为近年来探讨语言相对论和语言与思维之间的关系的一个热门视角。纪瑛琳编著的《空间运动事件的表达基于语言类型学和习得角度的研究》从语言类型学和一语习得两个角度对于英汉语中成人及儿童如何表达自动及使动性运动事件进行了大规模实证性研究,旨在回答两个问题:第一,从空间语言类型学来看,汉语究竟属于什么类型的语言;第二,在儿童习得本族语的过程中,什么因素起的作用相对更大,是普遍性的认知特征还是语言独特性因素。
