奈杰尔·哈伍德是英国埃塞克斯大学语言与语言学系的高级讲师。他的研究兴趣为学术写作、写作教学法、学术英语、材料设计和语料库驱动教学法等；已出版多本专著，包括编著《英语教学材料：理论与实践》。他也是《专用英语》期刊的联合主编。
