本书的写作视角是考察当代西方翻译研究的主要成果及其对翻译活动产生的影响，重点探讨当代西方翻译理论的发展脉络，梳理这一时期欧美翻译学界的主流思想。全书从翻译研究概况入手，分析20世纪后四十年到本世纪初的主要翻译流派，涉及语言学翻译理论、功能学派翻译理论、阐释学派翻译理论、文化研究学派翻译理论、解构主义翻译理论、女性主义翻译理论及后殖民翻译理论，并对当今翻译研究和翻译实践中有争议的三个重要问题进行了讨论。

杨彩霞，中国人民大学外国语学院英语语言文学、翻译教授，博士生导师，外国语学院教学督导组组长，大学英语翻译教学团队负责人，MTI教育中心笔译方向导师，中国翻译协会专家会员，《基督教思想评论》特约编审，国内多家一级出版社翻译。著作有《英汉翻译理论与教学研究》、《二十世纪美国文学与圣经传统》，译著有《中国印度之智慧》、《全球伦理》、《让?皮亚杰》《还原出埃及记》、《二十一世纪学习的革命》、《化身博士》等30余部独译作品，主编教材《大学英语写作》（一），参与编写教材4部，在国家刊物上发表论文30多篇。获中国人民大学十大教学标兵称号（2016），多次获得全国大学生翻译比赛、演讲比赛、写作比赛等英语竞赛指导教师奖项。
