《综合教程》用一些故事性较强的记叙文替换了说教色彩过浓的论说文。秦秀白、蒋静仪主编的《综合教程附光盘1学生用书第2版》更换了5篇课文。
在练习设计方面，改变了原ListenandRespond的练习形式；将GrammarinReview改为GrammarinContext，使语法项目的复习与课文中出现的语言现象更加紧密地结合起来；在IncreasingYourWordPower部分，加强了词语搭配练习。
