《普通高等教育“十一五”国家级规划教材：视听说教程（第3版）（学生用书3）》在编写过程中注意了英语听说能力的平衡发展，事实上这两者是相辅相成的。学语言需要操练，因此教材中听和说的练习量也比较大，内容比较充实，这是有效教学必需的；只要备课充分，在课堂内有效完成教学内容完全可能。
《普通高等教育“十一五”国家级规划教材：视听说教程（第3版）（学生用书3）》语料质量好，采用原版影音素材，语言真实地道，内容新颖，题材多样，生动有趣，形式活泼，能够激发学生的学习兴趣；而且编排循序渐进，由易到难，能做到有效教学。听力材料的选材原则是：题材相同、语言交际功能相近、尽量不出现生词；练习着眼于发展学生英语听解能力，大量采用信息迁移类练习；提供必要的听前语言准备，帮助学生做到能确实听懂。另外，为了满足不同层次学生的需要，这些听力材料的安排在语言难度上由浅人深，逐步提高要求，难度较高的练习前面标有一个*号，更难的标有两个**号，教师可以根据学生的实际水平确定课堂教学的内容。
