《西方文化英文教程》全书分为8个单元，建议授课学时为30学时左右，一学期完成。每单元五篇阅读文章，包括三篇基础阅读文和两篇补充阅读文。语篇长度、难度适中，生词采用文中注释的方式，文化背景知识注释采用脚注方式，方便学习和查找。每篇文章后均有长难句注释。
