I. 背景介绍
1. Pub:Pub is the short form
for public house. For those who want part of British life and culture,pub is the best place
to go. Pub culture mote sociability. Pubs are places where people meet friends and
enjoy have,for instance,television sets,amusement machines and juke-boxes
ties for playing carts,billiards,dominoes and similar games. Some
also for evening entertainment,such
as piano playing,folk singing and
modern jazz.

highly influential U. S. newspaper published in Washington D.C. The newspaper
first appeared in 1877 and in the 60s it was closely related to the Kennedy
family and now it is influenced by the Morgan family who holds a substantial
share of its stocks. Great importance has been attached to its editorials as
well as articles,many of which are often cited in the
Congress.
The text is a piece of expository writing of what
makes a good conversation. Conversation ,as the most
sociable of human activities,does not start with a given topic,nor
does it develops with a logical structure,nor does it end
with the problems settled. Bar conversation has a charm of its own. The other
evening bar friends had a heated discussion on the topic,“ the King ’ s English”,which was a term of criticism from an Australian.
Some people thought it was natural that there existed resistance against the
King ’ s English in a lower society like Australia. It reminded others that
there also existed a language barrier between the Saxon peasants and their
Norman conquerors. For instance,the
terms of animals and of their meat are different,which reflect cultural humiliation felt
by the English. After English has become the universal language of England,the King ’ s English is used and held up as a model
by the ruling class,the
educated people,whereas
the working people mock and jeer at it. Even the literates make mistakes if
they keep speaking the King ’ s
English. Hence, informal
language is needed in conversations.
