本教材试图对海洋文明的发展脉络和精粹进行清晰的梳理和简明的陈述,目的是深化当前大学通识课的教育,使学生真正能领会西方文化史的思想要义。本书为使学生对海洋文明史的发展脉络产生较为清晰的认识,将分为三大部分:第一篇为希腊罗马时期,重点是海洋文明的起源,即希腊和罗马时期的文明;第二篇为中世纪时期,即海洋文明的扩张历程;第三篇为海洋文明的现代形态,即中西方海洋文明步入现代意义上的发展过程。每篇英文课文之前都有比较系统的中文介绍,帮助学生在学习西方海洋文明之前形成对文化精髓的良好认知。

刘春芳,1970年7月出生,博士,教授,硕士生导师,研究方向:英美文学及西方文论。2009年毕业于东北师范大学外国语学院,获博士学位,2023年入职上海海事大学。曾受国家留学基金委等资助于2013年和2014年赴美访学。近年来,主持国家社科基金项目2项,博士后科学基金1项。在《外国文学评论》、《外国文学》、《外国文学研究》、《社会科学战线》等期刊发表论文30余篇;在国内外知名出版社出版合作专著3部。
